Aerospace

M-Fly, the University of Michigan’s SAE Aero Design team, is a student project team that focuses on designing, building, and flying an R/C aircraft in the annual SAE Aero Design Competition. This year, M-Fly completed its first ever Advanced Class aircraft, the MX-1, and took 5th place overall in the Advanced Class division, with 1st place in the design presentation portion. The MX-1 is a blended-body, mid-wing monoplane with a wingspan of over 15 feet. The rear landing gear was fabricated by Protocase, and it was designed by M-Fly students to withstand nominal landing loads while yielding under crash-landing impacts.
