Our standard CNC machining tolerances is ±0.005” (0.127mm). As a result, all cutouts and machined features on a single face will be ±0.005”. relative to one another only.

Our standard CNC machining tolerance and the manufacturing tolerance of the diecast aluminum enclosure will stack. For example, for a diecast aluminum enclosure being customized, the actual tolerance on your cutouts could be ±0.025” (±0.020” + ±0.005”), depending on how the part is set up in our machine.

If you require a tighter tolerance from a certain location, please be sure to relay this information to your Protocase Account Manager when requesting a quote so that our Engineering & Design Services team can be made aware.

For example, if you require a tolerance of ±0.005 from the right edge of a face, the “leftover” tolerance would be applied relative to the left side of the face, which would mean the tolerance would be ±0.025” from the left side.

Note: Leftover tolerances can only be applied to one of two perpendicularly opposed edges on a face. (For example, this tight tolerance rule could be applied to the top and right edge, but not the left and right edges).

Customizable Diecast Enclosures are the most inexpensive way to achieve your design goals for a machined enclosure, without having to start from scratch.
You can customize your diecast enclosure with custom through-hole cutouts/pockets, powdercoat, chemical film conversion coating, digital print, silkscreen, laser marking and more.
Protocase Designer is our free enclosure design software that will save you loads of time in your designing and quoting process. There are 60+ enclosure templates (including diecast enclosures!) that you can choose and customize with powdercoat, chemical conversion coating, custom through-hole cutouts and pockets, graphics and more. Our software has an Instant Quoter so you can get a price estimate anytime you like during the design process. Protocase Designer is programmed with design checks according to our manufacturing processes, so you can design with confidence knowing that what you are creating can be manufactured.
Customizing a diecast enclosure in Protocase Designer is quick and easy. First, you will select the diecast enclosure template that fits the style and dimensions you need. Then, you’ll choose your desired finish. From there, you can add through-hole cutouts, pockets, graphics and rubber feet to any exterior face of the diecast enclosure. You can quote your design, and then order when you’re ready for your diecast enclosure to be manufactured. We’ll take care of the rest, customizing your diecast enclosure(s) in our facilities in 2-3 days, then ship to you via courier.
No – if you have a preferred CAD software that you’d rather use to edit the selected diecast enclosure’s CAD file, you absolutely can. (You can find a ZIP file for each of the diecast enclosures we stock in the section above labelled “Stocked Diecast Enclosures”). Once you have all of your edits made to your diecast enclosure design, you can send your finished CAD file to us for quoting via our Request for Quote form.
Absolutely. We can order other diecast enclosures for you as a non-stock request. We are happy to reach out to our suppliers to find you the diecast enclosure t you require to keep your projects moving. Contact us if you require a different type of diecast enclosure.
